SAT Freddy punctures Maddox's literary pretensions and uncovers SAT a scandal. SAT Maddox ..... John Sessions SAT Oliver ..... Alex Jennings SAT Freddy ..... Stephen Wight SAT Carol ..... Polly Frame SAT Masha ..... Debbie Chazen SAT Miles Deanbrook ..... Sean Baker SAT Waiter ..... Adeel Akhtar SAT Producer ..... Sally Avens SAT Alistair Beaton and Tom Mitchelson's satire is set in the SAT world of modern newspapers. SAT A group of dysfunctional journalists attempt to cover major SAT news stories at the same time as grappling with the demands SAT of working in a multi-platform environment, watching SAT circulation figures plummet and the recession causing half SAT the workforce to be laid off. SAT At the heart of the comedy is the relationship between SAT Maddox Bradley, a journalist who mourns the day of proper SAT investigative journalism, and Freddy, the online editor who SAT will regurgitate a press release quite happily and call it a SAT story. But they have a grudging respect for the each other SAT as Freddy helps Maddox stay afloat in the world of Twitter, SAT Facebook and podcasting and Maddox shows Freddy how to sniff SAT out the real story. Both are at the mercy of Oliver, the SAT pragmatic editor more concerned with keeping his job, and SAT Carol, the news editor who believes that circulation will SAT increase if they run pieces on Big Mac eating orang-utans SAT and 'intelligent' skunks rather than Maddox's moral SAT crusading diatribes. And only Masha, the Russian head of SAT online communities, who wants to give away all their content SAT because that is true democracy, knows Freddy's secret; that SAT he's a posh boy from Eton rather than a hypercool kid from SAT the street; well that's what Freddy thinks anyway. SAT SAT 03:00 Charles Chilton - Another Time of My Life b0075m1p (Listen) SAT Part of BBC Radio 4 Extra's tribute to the remarkable talent SAT of writer and producer Charles Chilton, who died on 2 SAT January 2013 at the age of 95. SAT Charles Chilton worked for the BBC for 46 years. In 1973, he SAT continued to recall his varied early career. SAT It all started when a friend had made him a crystal set and SAT one of Chilton's favourite things was listening to the radio SAT in bed. In 1932, radio was the wonder of the age and the BBC SAT was a prestigious place to work. It was a time of high SAT unemployment but John Reith, who was badly wounded in the SAT First World War, was anxious to employ ex-soldiers and SAT others who had suffered from the war. Chilton was a SAT 15-year-old war orphan and so it was that, in January 1933, SAT he was lucky enough to be given his first job in the SAT spectacular, newly built Broadcasting House in London. SAT First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in September 1973. From SAT 2011. SAT SAT 09:00 The Rudest Man in Britain b03rxc77 (Listen) SAT The Rudest Man in Britain excavates the archives from the SAT perspective of Gilbert Harding - a well-loved radio SAT personality who went on to achieve wider television exposure SAT as star of long-running panel shows such as 'What's My SAT Line?' once watched by millions. Clever, amusing and often SAT outrageous, Harding was a familiar voice of wireless who SAT became a pioneer of popular TV. But behind the public SAT persona, there was a troubled and conflicted character. To SAT create a profile of Gilbert Harding's life and sample his SAT broadcasting work Simon Fanshawe will draw on Stephen SAT Wyatt's play Dr Brighton and Mr Harding, in which Harding SAT (played by Roger Allam) wrestles with his inner demons and SAT fantasies, knowing also that he is in increasingly poor SAT health (hence his reason for moving to the coast to embrace SAT 'Dr Brighton'). SAT Simon samples excerpts from Round Britain Quiz, What's My SAT Line?, and The Brains Trust and a complete edition of Twenty SAT Questions - which, as a format, still stands up well. He SAT also revisits Harding's seminal 1960 Face to Face television SAT interview with John Freeman, where he broke down on camera SAT when the questioner touched a nerve. Simon Fanshawe explores SAT the development of many now familiar formats on Radio and TV SAT - and assembles a fascinating and rounded portrait of this SAT tortured but much loved polymath.
